St. Astvatsatsin Church was constructed in 1031 by Armenian linguist and scholar Grigor Magistros, the son of Vasak Pahlavuni. In the south wing of the church a vaulted chapel dating to the 13th century was discovered and there’s a huge khachkar (cross-stone) on the chapel’s western wall.
